The IAB and PwC have released figures showing that online advertising has grown by 12.8% in 2010, topping £4bn in value.

These figures show growth to be three times faster than those in 2009, details of which were presented at Innovation and Research Group 6 of the Digital Business Network.

Growth is on the back of the recovery of the advertising market, with major brands re-establishing their marketing budget. According to IAB Chief Executive Guy Phillipson, 'major brands restored their advertising budgets in 2010 and online was a big winner'

With figures showing that UK internet users spend 25% of their online time on sites like Facebook and YouTube, advertisers are keen to tap into social networks and as such they have seen the largest growth, rising by nearly 200%.

This adds some extra spice to the forthcoming debate the KB Digital Business Network is having with Apple on what the future of online marketing and advertising looks like.
